SRINAGAR: Two militants were killed in an overnight operation in Samboora. The operation concluded in the morning. Police have issued the following detailed statement about the encounter.

“On a specific input regarding presence of terrorists in Samboora  area of Awantipora, a joint cordon and search operation was launched yesterday by Police, 50RR and 110BN CRPF in the said area.

During the search operation, as the presence of terrorists got ascertained they were given opportunity to surrender, however, they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter. The terrorists made failed attempts to escape from the spot but were challenged by the joint search party.

In the ensuing encounter two terrorists were killed, however, the search operation was suspended due to darkness and the whole area was put under strict cordon. In the wee hours, the search operation was resumed and the bodies of both the killed terrorists were retrieved from the site of encounter. They have been identified as Aijaz Ahmad Reshi and Sajad Ahmad Sofi both residents of Awantipora affiliated with proscribed terror outfit LeT.

As per police records, Aijaz Reshi was operational commander of LeT and was active since May 2016. He was involved in many terror crimes and civilian atrocities. He was involved in recruiting innocent youth into terror folds besides, was also providing shelter and logistic support to the active terrorists operating in the area and transportation of terrorists to carry out terrorist attacks. He was involved in Fristbal Pampore terror attack and Kadlabal Pampore terror attack besides, transportation of terrorists to carry out EDI terror attack.

Similarly, terrorist Sajad was involved in many terror crimes and civilian atrocities. Both the killed terrorists were part of groups responsible for carrying out terrorist attacks. Many cases stands registered against both for their terrorist activities.

Keeping in view the prevailing pandemic due to Covid-19 and to ensure the safety of people from inherent risk of contracting the infection, the dead bodies of the killed terrorists shall be sent to Baramulla for burial after completion of all medico-legal formalities. The nearest family members of the killed terrorists shall be allowed to participate in the last rites.

Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes.

In this connection a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation has been initiated. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any.

Pertinently, J&K police along with security forces have apprehended two active terrorists affiliated with proscribed terrorist outfit LeT and TRF in Awantipora and Anantnag, respectively.

Awantipora police along with 50RR & 185Bn CRPF arrested a recently joined terrorist identified as Faisal Ahmad Dar resident of Khankah Bagh Pampore affiliated with proscribed terrorist outfit LeT near Konibal crossing Pampore.

According to police records, he went missing from 11th September and on 13th September uploaded his audio on social Media wherein he claimed to have joined terrorist ranks and requesting his parents not to search for him as he has joined terrorist ranks.

Incriminating material of proscribed outfit LeT has been recovered from his possession and a case FIR number 79/2020 under the relevant section of law stands registered at Police Station Pampore.

Similarly, acting on specific information, Anantnag Police along with 19RR arrested an active terrorist identified as Talib Bhat resident of Dehruna and affiliated with proscribed terror outfit TRF in a joint operation at Kapran, Dooru. Arms & ammunition including 01 pistol, pistol magazine and a hand grenade were recovered from his possession. As per police records, he was recruited by TRF commander Abbas Sheikh of Kulgam. He has also released a video clip after joining in the terrorist ranks.

In this regard, a case has already been registered and investigation is in progress.”
