SRINAGAR: King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was evacuated on Saturday following a fresh attack, two regional officials told The Associated Press (AP), as hostilities linked to the war involving Iran and the widening conflict in neighbouring Yemen intensified.

The latest incident came two days after three Saudi citizens, including a pilot, were killed at the airport, according to the report. The facility has faced repeated attacks over the past week, following a major military offensive by a Saudi-led coalition against Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The Houthis had claimed responsibility for earlier attacks, including a strike on Wednesday that killed a Sudanese national. The group had not issued an immediate statement on the latest incident.

Ahmed Sayed, a Riyadh resident, told AP that he heard at least two loud explosions that shook the Saudi capital.

The airport issued an alert advising passengers to check their flight status with airlines before travelling to the facility.

The incident comes amid intensifying clashes between Houthi fighters and forces loyal to Yemen’s Saudi-backed government. The Saudi-led coalition has been providing air support to government forces seeking to reverse recent Houthi advances along the Red Sea.
