SRINAGAR: Due to ongoing rains and snowfall, the Kupwara District Administration has ordered the closure of all schools in several district areas.
All schools in Machil, Keran, Budnambal, Kumkadi, Jumagund and the upper areas of Karnah will remain closed until 17 March 2025.
The decision was taken as a precaution, as continuous rainfall on the plains and snowfall in higher areas have disrupted road connectivity and increased the risk of avalanches and landslides in vulnerable regions.
Officials have advised residents, particularly in hilly regions, to avoid unnecessary travel and to follow safety advisories issued by local authorities.
Meanwhile, relevant departments have been directed to remain alert to handle any emergencies arising from the current weather conditions. (JKNS)
