SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has decided against extending the summer vacation any further, with all government and recognised private schools across the Union Territory set to reopen on Monday, July 27, as scheduled.
Officials in the School Education Department said the decision was taken after weather conditions improved across the region.
Quoting a senior department official, news agency JKNS reported that all educational institutions have been directed to resume normal academic activities from Monday. The decision was also confirmed by an official in the office of Education Minister Sakina Itoo.
The government had initially announced summer vacations for schools in the Kashmir Division and winter zones of the Jammu Division from July 6 to July 19 in view of the prevailing heatwave.
The break was first extended till July 22 due to continued high temperatures and an adverse weather forecast. It was subsequently prolonged till July 26 after heavy rainfall, flash flood warnings and inclement weather prompted the administration to keep schools closed as a precaution.
The final extension followed forecasts by the Meteorological Department warning of heavy rainfall and the possibility of flash floods between July 20 and July 23.
While announcing the last extension, Education Minister Sakina Itoo had stated that schools would reopen on Monday, July 27. Officials on Sunday said the schedule remains unchanged, with improved weather conditions allowing educational institutions to resume regular classes.
