SRINAGAR: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) remained closed for traffic on Sunday as restoration work continued at the landslide-hit Gangroo stretch in Banihal, officials said.
Traffic movement has been suspended after a massive landslide blocked the highway on Saturday evening. Road clearance operations are in progress, but the highway has not been reopened due to the continued risk of fresh landslides and shooting stones in the area.
The Traffic Police has advised commuters not to undertake travel on the highway until it is declared safe for vehicular movement. Motorists have also been urged not to rely on rumours regarding the road status and instead verify updates through the official Traffic Police social media platforms and Traffic Control Units (TCUs).
Officials said restoration teams are working to clear the accumulated debris, but the reopening of the highway will depend on weather conditions and the stability of the affected slope.
