Hundreds of people on Saturday participated in the last rites of a slain Sumo driver who was shot dead by unknown gunmen, while his wife received critical injuries in the attack in north Kashmir’s Sopore area late Friday evening.

The Sumo driver, identified as Mohammad Ashraf Mir son of Muhammad Jamal Mir resident of Harwan Sopore was laid to rest amid sobs and tears in the local graveyard, local witnesses said.

Ashraf, a driver by profession, is survived by three children including two daughters and a son and two wives including the one injured in the shooting.

Pertinently, this was second such incident in the last four months in the same village.

Earlier, unidentified gunmen on 03 January 2018 killed 25-year-old ECO driver Arif Maqbool Sofi son of Mohammad Maqbool Sofi in the same area.
