In a bizarre incident of its kind, the managers of parking space inside Sub-district hospital, Sopore, issue tickets meant for patients against the parking of vehicles.
Several drivers say they are victims of a parking “scam” in Sub-District Hospital Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The drivers told CNS that hospital staff charges Rs 20 for parking a vehicle in the premises of the hospital but the irony is that hospital authorities instead of providing a proper receipt hand over hospital tickets to them that are meant for the patients.
Reports said that the parking practice in the hospital was started during the tenure of the then Medical Superintendent Dr Masood Shah, presently MS District Hospital Baramulla who reportedly had allotted this parking lot to hospital employee “without flouting any tender”.
The practice to issue hospital tickets instead of proper parking receipt continues. “We don’t know in whose coffers this parking money goes. It is a scam and the matter needs to be probed. No record about the income generated through parking slot is being maintained anywhere,” said an insider on condition of anonymity adding that money will only go to Hospital Development Fund if proper receipts are given to drivers.
Medical Superintendent Dr Sami said that they will soon outsource this parking slot to any private firm. “Issuing medical tickets instead of proper parking receipts is a temporary arrangement just in place not to lose revenue,” he said and added the proper record is maintained about the revenue generated through parking slot inside the hospital.
