Continuing its awareness programme on disaster preparedness by the Commandant SDRF Abdul Wahid Shah, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Thursday conducted another daylong awareness cum training programme in SP College Srinagar.

“Large number of students and other staff members of the college participated in the training programme viz-medical emergency rescue, medial first responder (MFR), emergency evacuation using ropeways. Besides, giving glance of modern equipment used in collapsed structures and fire fighting,” a police statement said this afternoon.

“The students and faculty members were enthusiastic about the training and eager to learn so that in case of any exigencies they can handle the situation prior to arrival of rescue team. Mock exercise was also held during the training programme,” it added.

Meanwhile, a man was injured in Baramulla in a road mishap.

“One person was injured in a road accident in Tangmarg area of District Baramulla last evening,” the police statement said. “A Tipper bearing registration number JK05B-3747 hit and injured a pedestrian Abdul Qayoom Passa son of Ghulam Mohi-u-din Passa resident of Reram Kunzer at Shria Tangmarg. The injured was shifted to hospital for treatment. Baramulla Police has registered a case in this regard.”

The statement further said that two structures damaged in different fire incidents across the valley.

Fire broke out in a building housing J&K Bank Branch Ichgam Budgam, resulting in partial damage to its structure.

In another fire incident, fire broke out in the residential house of Manzoor Ahmad Allai @ Kasayi son of Ghulam Rasool resident of Mirhama, resulting in partial damage to the house.

The fire tenders with the help of police and locals brought fire under control.

However, no loss of life or injury has been reported in these fire incidents.
