Search for Drowned Gurez Boy Enters Fifth Day in Kishanganga River

   

SRINAGAR: The search operation to trace a 10-year-old boy who drowned in the Kishanganga River in the Gurez area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district entered its fifth consecutive day on Saturday, with rescue teams continuing efforts to locate the body, officials said.

The boy has been identified as Babar Bashir Sheikh, a resident of Sheikhpora, Tulail, Gurez.

According to officials, the child accidentally drowned in the Kishanganga River near Sheikhpora, Tulail, on July 6, following which a search and rescue operation was launched.

Teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been carrying out an extensive search along the river over the past several days despite difficult conditions in an effort to retrieve the body.

Officials said the body had not been recovered till the filing of this report. The search operation is continuing and will remain underway until the boy is traced.
