Expressing serious concern over the sectarian violence in Budgam district, the CPI (M) State Secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has said such incidents are purely against Kashmir’s centuries old tradition of tolerance and brotherhood among various communities and sects.

While appealing people to maintain calm, the CPI (M) leader has termed the infighting amoung the two sects a handiwork of elements who want to create wedge between the two communities for their vested interests.

He said these elements spread hatred in the name of religion and sects and try to flare up emotions of people to divide the society on sectarian lines. “Infighting among the communities can never serve any purpose of any of the community. Such type of clashes only divides the society and which is never in the interests of the people,” he observed.

While urging the government to take steps required maintaining peace and tranquility in the district and other sensitive parts of the state, the CPI (M) leader also appealed the religious leaders and civil society stakeholders to put in their efforts for restoration of peace.
