Security Beefed Up in View of January 26 in Srinagar

SRINAGAR

Two days ahead of January 26, the authorities have tightened security across Kashmir while frisking, random searches and checking of identity cards by police and paramilitary forces were witnessed at several places in Srinagar on Saturday. Reports of similar exercises were received from other towns of Kashmir.

Iqbal Park according to reports has been closed for public while parking areas at the Bakhshi Stadium, venue of the main January 26 function in Srinagar, have been sealed with barbed wire and barricades erected around the stadium. The forces are carrying out the thorough frisking of vehicles passing around the Bakhshi Stadium. The forces have carried out searches of residential houses around the stadium and joint contingents have been deployed at high rise buildings.

Additional security forces personnel were seen deployed in Srinagar streets and other major towns of Kashmir. Police have also started frisking passengers and checking vehicles entering the city at Parimpora, Athwajan and on the bypass road causing massive inconvenience to commuters.

A top police official told CNS that that security is in place. “Security apparatus are in place to thwart any untoward incident,” he said.
