SRINAGAR: Security forces on Wednesday averted a major terror incident in south Kashmir’s Shopian district after recovering and safely destroying an improvised explosive device (IED).

The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army said in a post on X that the operation was jointly conducted with the Jammu and Kashmir Police near Chitragam in the Zainapora area of Shopian.
Officials said the recovered IED weighed around 14.5 kilograms and was packed with high explosives, fitted with a remote-controlled triggering mechanism.
The device was later neutralised in a controlled explosion by a bomb disposal squad, preventing any potential damage or casualties.
The Army said the swift and coordinated action averted a possible terror attack and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.
