SRINAGAR: Security measures on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway were intensified after security forces received information about a vehicle’s suspicious movement on the crucial link to the Valley.
Following the input, security has been tightened on the highway in all districts of Jammu division, the Tribune reported.
Meanwhile, an alert has been issued for Republic Day across the entire Union Territory.
Tribune reported that the police detected the movement of a suspicious vehicle coming from Kashmir towards Jammu. However, there has been no official confirmation or details regarding the matter so far.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was deployed along the NH in Udhampur, where the personnel checked all vehicles coming to Jammu from Kashmir.
“137 Battalion of the CRPF has been deployed in Udhampur to frisk all vehicles and keep an eye on any suspicious activity. With the Republic Day approaching, we are not leaving any loopholes in the security grid, for which a maximum number of security personnel have been deployed on the ground,” a senior police official told the newspaper.
CRPF personnel have established checkpoints at different points along the highway, and it is being scanned for the presence of any improvised explosive devices (IEDs) or explosives. Meanwhile, patrol teams of the J&K Police and the CRPF are making rounds of the highway.
