SRINAGAR: Kulgam Police have intensified security along the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) in the Qazigund area following the recent militant attack in neighbouring Anantnag in which a police personnel was killed during a search operation.
Officials said the enhanced security measures have been implemented under the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary (IPS) to prevent any movement of militants and ensure the safety of commuters travelling on the strategic highway.
As part of the heightened security, police have stepped up vehicle checking at multiple points along NH-44 and increased deployment at vulnerable locations. Security personnel are also conducting round-the-clock surveillance, random frisking and verification of suspicious vehicles and individuals to maintain a high state of alert.
The stepped-up security follows the recent attack in the Lal area of Anantnag district, where militants opened fire on security forces during a search operation, resulting in the death of a police personnel.
