J&K Yateem Foundation in collaboration with National Mission for Empowerment of Women, J&K and Women Studies
Centre, Government College of Education, Srinagar organized daylong seminar on ‘Empowerment Of Orphan Poor Girls and Widows: Women’s Responsibilities’, here on Saturday.

A galaxy of college faculty, educationists, teachers and B. Ed, M. Ed students, were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, State Mission Director, National Mission for Empowerment of Women, J&K Hafiza Muzaffar called upon the participants to work for the welfare and rehabilitation of orphans, widows and destitute. She said the major chunk of sufferers among population are women who need not only monetary help but also moral and emotional
support.

She urged the working women to contribute monetarily towards livelihood support, education and solemnizing marriages of orphan and poor girls so that they could live honorable and dignified life without exploitation.

Hafiza, who also heads J&K State Rehabilitation Council,  informed that militancy affected orphans including girls, widows can avail help in the form of scholarships, one time marriage assistance aid and other aid from the Council under Department of Social Welfare, Govt of J&K.

Guest of honour, Prof (Dr) Parveen Pandit, Principal Government College of Education, Srinagar, stressed on the need to take effective measures to make the orphan girls educated which will lead to their real empowerment. She urged educated & literate sections to come forward and lend their support in this mission. She also highlighted
the plight of women sufferers wherein girls and women are facing violence and onslaught, which needs to be fought while upholding rights & dignity of both men & women.

Earlier, Prof (Retd) Manzoor Ahmad Wazir, educationist, expressed concern over the insensitivity and apathy of the people in general and called for taking sincere, meaningful and result-oriented measures for the orphans, widows and destitute who need all kinds of support, encouragement and help.

JKYF chairman Mohammed Rafiq Lone in his vote of thanks, called upon the participants to extend their help, cooperation & support besides utilize their talent and expertise for the welfare & rehabilitation of orphans, widows and destitute.

The seminar started with the recitation of Holy Qura’n.
