SRINAGAR: Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Wednesday approved the withdrawal of criminal cases against 10 individuals booked in connection with the violence in Leh on September 24, 2025.
The decision was taken following a recommendation from the Ladakh Police, according to a statement issued by the Lieutenant Governor.
Saxena said the move was intended to promote peace, unity and social harmony in the region, while allowing the individuals concerned to resume their lives and careers.
He said the decision placed emphasis on justice, healing and recovery rather than prolonged legal proceedings.
The Lieutenant Governor also thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his “sympathetic and sensitive approach” towards those affected by the violence and their families.
The violence erupted in Leh on September 24 last year amid protests over demands for statehood for Ladakh and its inclusion under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. The agitation intensified during a hunger strike led by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk.
Four civilians were killed and dozens of others injured when security forces opened fire during the unrest. The violence was followed by curfew restrictions and internet suspensions, amid continuing political demands concerning Ladakh’s constitutional safeguards and political status.
