Seven Arrested in Separate Drug Cases in Budgam, Anantnag

   

SRINAGAR: Police have arrested seven alleged drug peddlers in separate cases in Budgam and Anantnag and recovered heroin, cannabis, poppy straw, ganja and charas from their possession, officials said.

In Budgam, two persons were arrested during naka checking at Hyderpora after police intercepted a WagonR bearing registration number JK04J-6805. The accused were identified as Aejaz Ahmad Bhat alias Aej Gyale and Tariq Ahmad Paul, both residents of Narkara. Police said 151 grams of heroin was recovered from their possession.

In a separate operation at West End Colony, Hyderpora, police intercepted an auto-rickshaw bearing registration number JK01AX-6404 and arrested Faisal Ahmad Shah alias Afreed Kalia and Ubaid Feroz Zargar, both residents of Mohanpora, Narkara. Police said approximately four grams of a heroin-like substance was recovered from them.

At the Airport Drop Gate, another police party from Police Post Humhama apprehended a man during checking and recovered 69 grams of cannabis and 212 grams of poppy straw from his baggage. The accused was identified as Shalu E.S., a resident of Kerala.

In Anantnag, police from Police Post Sangam arrested Aamir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Batengoo, during naka checking at Batengoo Crossing near Beacon and recovered 140 grams of ganja from him.

In another operation at G.B. Khalil, Naina–Tulkhan Crossing, police intercepted Zaffar Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Parimpora, Srinagar, presently residing at G.B. Khalil, Naina. Police said 38.87 grams of charas was recovered during the search.

Cases under relevant provisions of law have been registered in the respective incidents and investigations are underway.

J&K Police said operations against drug peddling and illicit trafficking would continue as part of its stated zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics.
