In a tragic road accident in Paddar area of Chenab Valley late last night seven persons lost their lives.

Reports said that a Tata Sumo bearing registration number JK17  –  3828 which was on its way to Paddar from a remote village of same area rolled down about 12 kilometers beyond its destination resulted killing of six persons on the spot where as one person died while being shifted to hospital.

Reliable sources said that only seven persons were travelling in the ill-fated vehicle which rolled down about 300 feet down to a deep gorge; however, locals told this correspondent that the driver of the vehicle was drunk and was driving rashly on this hilly road during night hours.

When the news of accident spread in the area, locals rushed to the site of accident and started evacuating the dead bodies to the road and later on shifted to nearby hospital.

All the seven persons had gone for a picnic in Gulabgarh area of Paddar and were returning to their respective places before this fateful accident.

This morning all the dead bodies were brought to their respective villages for last rites. Those who died in this tragic accident have been identified as Nitish Kumar of Matti, SPO Rajinder Singh of Tatti Ligri, Sonam Lotap of Kabban, Mohinder Kumar of Matti, Manak Singh of Kundal, Yograj Singh of Matti and Piyare Lal of Dhundhi.

Complete shutdown was observed in Paddar and its adjoining villages in the memory of those killed in the accident.

The entire business establishment, shops remained closed throughout day. Traders also closed their business and transport was also off the road in Paddar area.
