SRINAGAR: Several political figures, including former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta, have vacated their government accommodations, as informed by the Estates Department in a compliance report submitted to the High Court.
The report, presented before a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan and Justice MA Chowdhary, states that Kavinder Gupta has relinquished his allotted premises. Furthermore, an eviction order was issued to JK BJP President Sat Sharma, alongside a notice demanding penal rent of Rs 73,470. The premises occupied by Sharma have now been sealed.
The Estates Department also disclosed that eviction proceedings have been initiated against former MLCs Zaffar Iqbal Manhas and Surinder Ambardar.
Senior Congress leader S.S. Channi has vacated his government accommodation, with a notice issued to him for penal rent amounting to Rs 14,690. Similarly, former legislator Mohammed Abbas Wani has vacated his premises and received a penal rent notice for Rs 19,586.
The report further revealed that former legislator Abdul Rahim Rather and ex-MLC Vibodh Gupta have also vacated their government accommodations. Notices for penal rent amounting to Rs 28,211 and Rs 13,993, respectively, have been issued to them.
This compliance report follows a court directive seeking updates on the status of government accommodations occupied by political figures, including Kavinder Gupta, Sat Sharma, Surinder Ambardar, and Zaffar Iqbal Manhas. (KNT)
