Severe Cold Grips Kashmir Valley, Ladakh

   

SRINAGAR: Kashmir and Ladakh continue to record severe cold last night with several areas experiencing sub-zero temperatures, according to data compiled by Kashmir Weather.

Leh in Ladakh was the coldest, with a minimum of -7.2°C, followed by Kargil at -6.4°C. In Kashmir, Pahalgam recorded -4.3°C, while Zethan in Rafiabad saw -4.1°C. Srinagar’s minimum temperature was -0.9°C, with the airport area dropping to -2.4°C. Pulwama and Shopian registered -3.8°C and -3.5°C respectively, while Gulmarg recorded -1.6°C. Other areas, including Kokernag and Kulgam, stayed above freezing at 1.1°C and 0.6°C.

In the Jammu region, temperatures were comparatively milder. Katra recorded a minimum of 9.2°C, Jammu city 8.3°C, and Jammu Airport 8.6°C. Banihal and Bhaderwah saw lower readings at 1.5°C and 2.0°C respectively, while Udhampur and Samba recorded 3.6°C and 3.0°C.

The Nubra Valley in Ladakh recorded -3.2°C, highlighting the cold conditions in high-altitude areas. Authorities have advised residents to take precautions, particularly in the mountainous regions, as winter deepens.

The data underscores the stark temperature variations across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, with plains remaining relatively mild compared to the freezing highlands.
