Srinagar Jammu High way, the only land route connecting valley Kashmir with the outer world has been closed after heavy snowfall.

Traffic sources told Kashmir Life that area from Patni Top to Banihal received heavy snow during the night due to which traffic has been suspended.

“Beacon personnel are at work and the road is being cleaned by the help of machinery, however, the continuous snow fall is creating hurdles in the work,” they said.

Kashmir Valley received sporadic snow and rain during the intervening night. It started raining in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley from Thursday morning.

Snowfall has been reported from high-altitude areas, including Jawahar Tunnel, the gateway to Kashmir Valley, along the 294 km Srinagar-Jammu highway, officials said.

Reports of snowfall have also from Shopian in south Kashmir, Sonamarg on Srinagar-Leh highway and Razdan top in Bandipora district, they said. In the areas of district Islamabad, Shopian, Kulgam, Kupwara and Baramulla, 5 to 6 inches of snow has been recorded till Friday morning.

MET sources said that it was still snowing in almost all the parts of south Kashmir.

The famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, received fresh snowfall over the past two days which is being enjoyed by the tourists present there.
