Much to the relief of people, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) bunker located at the Lalchowk side of the Amira Kadal Srinagar was removed on Friday amidst precipitation.

It is the 44th bunker removed from Srinagar since the 8-point program announced by the Center in last two years.

The shopkeepers, hotel owners and transporters had time and again appealed the state government for removal of bunkers from the commercial hub of the city saying the presence of bunkers scare away tourists, customers and even pedestrians.

Police spokesman, while confirming the removal of the bunker on one side of the Amira Kadal said that 132 battalion of CRPF was stationed in it.

“The decision of removal of the bunker was taken after deliberations between the administration and the government agencies,” sources said.

Sources said the process of removal of bunkers in Srinagar was going on and the decision about the removal of bunkers is taken in meetings which took place from time to time.
