The incarcerated chairperson of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah Saturday paid glorious tributes to Chaudhary Ghulam Abbas on his 50th anniversary saying the leader will always be remembered for his great contribution to the freedom movement.

In a statement issued here, Shah said Chaudhary Ghulam Abbas was a pioneer of Kashmir’s freedom movement.

“Chaudhary Ghulam Abbas through the Muslim Conference gave a new direction to the Kashmir’s movement and when Sheikh Abdullah rechristened the party with National Conference, Chaudhary Abbas strongly resisted the move and took forward the mission of Muslim Conference,” Shah said, adding that ultimately Chaudhary Abbas became the President of “Azad” Kashmir.

Paying glowing tribute to him, Shah said during the 1947 massacre of Muslims, Chaudhary Abbas’s family had to face many hardships.

“We have to take forward the mission of our martyrs and leaders like Chaudhary Abbas and shouldn’t get dismayed in any way. We have to remain optimistic and carry on our struggle for freedom,” he said.

Shah expressed satisfaction over the pro-freedom protests held across the nook and corner of the Valley. He condemned the use of teargas and pellet guns against the peaceful protesters.

Meanwhile, Shabir Ahmad Shah has expressed grief over the demise of mother of Shaheed Maqbool Illahi saying this family has contributed a lot towards the freedom movement. He extended condolence with the bereaved family and prayed for their forbearance.
