Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after he defied the house arrest orders.
Shah was arrested along with his supporters when they tried to break the police siege and started to march towards UNO military observer’s office Srinagar.
As per a statement Democratic Freedom Party was scheduled to hold a peaceful protest at Lal Chowk against the killing of youth in Palhallan and return of mortal remains of Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and Guru.
The party was also scheduled to submit a memorandum to United Nations office at Sonawar, Srinagar. “But police foiled the whole programme,” the party spokesperson said.
“DFP has mailed the memorandum to UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon seeking his interference in pressurizing India to return the mortal remains of Bhat and Guru and to take serious notice of the suppressive policy adopted by the Government of India and its forces with regards to pro-freedom leadership of Jammu Kashmir,” the statement said.
