SRINAGAR: Senior IAS officer Shahid Iqbal Choudhary has been posted as Commissioner Secretary for Housing and Urban Development, Urban Local Bodies and Town Planning in Arunachal Pradesh following his joining the state government.
Choudhary, a 2009-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, was transferred from Jammu and Kashmir to Arunachal Pradesh under an order of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The J&K General Administration Department records his transfer with effect from September 11, 2026.
An experienced administrator, Choudhary has previously served as Commissioner/Secretary in several departments of the J&K Government. His assignments have included Youth Affairs and Sports, Science and Technology, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Civil Aviation, Planning, Monitoring and Development, and Tribal Affairs.
He has also held several field-level administrative positions as Deputy Commissioner in J&K districts, including Srinagar, Bandipora, Rajouri, Kathua, Reasi and Kishtwar, besides serving as Director Information.
Choudhary was designated Commissioner/Secretary to the J&K Government in December 2025 after his promotion to the Super Time Scale, Level 14 of the pay matrix. He was then designated Commissioner/Secretary, Science and Technology Department.
His new portfolio in Arunachal Pradesh covers urban development, housing, town planning and urban local bodies. The state’s Urban Affairs Department is responsible for urban infrastructure, town planning, housing and urban local bodies, among other areas.
