Residents of Shangus Rayakpora area are up in arms against the Power Development Department (PDD) for repeated damage of existing transformer in the area.

The residents complained the erratic power supply not only compounds the problems of people but also causes hardships to students preparing for various examinations.

Gulzar Ahmad Itoo, local resident said due to the repeated damage of existing 250KV transformer which is catering to the village.  A new transformer should be sanctioned for the village,” he said.

“Despite paying electricity bills on time the PDD is resorting to unscheduled power cuts,” Itoo said.

He said that not only the erratic power supply and technical snags to the transformer causes problems in the village.

“We have to light candles and lanterns while studying,” Itoo said.

Meanwhile, residents threatened to take to the streets in case PDD fails to improve the power supply in the area.

“We appeal the District administration to sanction the new transformer from PDD division Anantnag as of generosity,” the residents said.
