SRINAGAR: The top Shia leader and President of the Jammu and Kashmir Anjuman Sharie Shian Association, Aga Syed Hassan Mosavi Al-Safavi, appeared before the Court of Judicial Magistrate Ist Class Sumbal in Bandipora following a warrant issued by the Court.

The local court had issued a warrant to Aga Syed Hasan in connection with an FIR about 2010. He was accompanied by a team of his lawyers, and a significant number of his supporters gathered outside, warmly welcoming him upon his arrival.

Later in a press statement issued by JKANJSS, it said, “In the year 2010, sectarian clashes erupted in Sumbal Sonawari of Bandipora District. Sensing the intensity of the situation, President J&K Anjuman-E-Sharie Shian Founder Anjuman Interfaith Dialogue Chapter Aga Syed Hassan Mosavi Al-Safavi, along with Shaheed Moulana Showket Shah, intervened by visiting doors to doors of the area and streamed the clashes, restoring the flame of brotherhood and coexistence in the area. In the same matter, the then Government had filed the FIR bearing No 278/2010 at Sumbal Police Station.”

“In reference to Warrant, (111/5-B/1PSB/23) issued by the Hon’ble Court of JMIC Sumbal Sonwari, President J&K Anjuman-E-Sharie Shian Founder Anjuman Interfaith Dialogue Chapter H I Aga Syed Hassan Mosavi Al Safavi appeared before the Hon’ble Court Sumbal Sonawari Today, i.e. Wednesday 13.12.20,” the statement said, adding, “Hon’ble learned Court, while understanding the situation, accepted the application moved by the Legal Counsels and granted the EXEMPTION for the future hearings.”

“J&K Anjuman Sharie Shian would like to express gratitude to the Followers of Sader-e-Mohtaram for expressing their unconditional solidarity and affection by accompanying Sumbal. Also, would like to Thank District Administration Budgam and Bandipora for following the process, Administration of the twin districts respected the Sentiments of the Followers,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, Politicians and religious leaders have appealed to the administration to withdraw the FIR against the Shia leader.

“In 2010, some religious leaders and civil society actors played a crucial role in defusing sectarian tensions in Budgam and helped in maintaining law and order & communal amity. Both sects behaved responsibly & thwarted nefarious designs of vested interests to disturb peace & harmony. It is very unfortunate to learn that after over two decades, some people are summoned to court, raking up an old FIR. Requesting @OfficeOfLGJandK to intervene and get the FIR withdrawn,” wrote CPI(M) senior leader, M Y Tarigami, on the social media platform ‘X’.

Moreover, the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama J&K, headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has strongly reacted against the case filed by the J&K administration against the Majlis member, leading religious leader Agha Syed Hassan Al Mosvi Al-Safavi.

The MMU, in a statement, said Agha has always tried to promote sectarian unity and communal harmony. “There is no justification for such a case against Agha Sahib, and the administration must withdraw the case,” the Majlis said. (GNS)
