The third youth killed in yesterday’s firing in Shopian has been identified as Tariq Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Nabi Mir, a resident of Okay Kulgam.

Four persons were killed and one injured critically when Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) fired on six youth riding two bikes in Gagran Shopian in south Kashmir on Saturday.

Though the police claimed that the slain were militants but the identities of the three revealed so far suggest that they were civilians.

“The youth were riding on two motor bikes near Gagran camp when CRPF persons intercepted them and fired indiscriminately on them,” locals said.

Three of the dead were identified as Tawseef Ahmad Bhat, 18, son of Gulam Muhammad Bhat, resident of Baba Mohallah Shopian, Muhammad Yousuf resident of Durpora, Zainpora (a labourer) and Tariq Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Nabi Mir resident of Okay, Kulgam.

Another youth from Shopian, Aadil Ahmad Wachkoo son of Muhammad Ayub Wachkoo, resident of Bona Bazaar Shopian got injured critically in the incident.
