Shopian, Pulwama districts shut to mourn militant killings

A complete shutdown is being observed on the second consecutive day on Thursday in Shopian and Pulwama districts of south Kashmir to mourn the killing of six militants in two separate encounters on January 21 and 22.

Reports said that all shops and other commercial establishments are closed in the districts while public transport remained off the roads.

They said that people from the Shopian, Pulwama and its neighboring districts are visiting the houses of the militants to offer condolences to the families.

On January 22, 2019, three militants were killed during an encounter with government forces in Shirmal village of Shopian district.

The slain were identified as Shamsul-Haq, a resident Draggad, Amir Suhail Bhat, a resident of Shopian, Shoaib, a resident of Shirmal Shopian.

On January 21, 2019, three militants were killed in an encounter with forces in Hapatnar area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district. All the three slain militants belonged to south Kashmir areas.

On January, 22, three militants Shamsul-Haq, a resident Draggad, Amir Suhail Bhat, a resident of Shopian, Shoiab, a resident of Sherimal Shopian, were killed during an encounter with mixed contingents of forces in Heff village of Shopian.
