A complete shutdown is being observed for the third consecutive day in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Tuesday to mourn the killing of Al Badr commander Zeenat ul Islam and his aide in a gunfight with the forces.

Reports said that all shops and other commercial establishments are closed while traffic remained off the roads.

They said that heavy contingents of government forces were deployed at sensitive locations in the district to maintain law and order, while the mobile Internet service in the district remained suspended for the second consecutive day.

Zeenat ul Islam and his aide Shakeel Ahmad were killed by the forces in a brief shootout in Kathpora village in Yaripora area of Kulgam district on Saturday evening.

An eyewitness said that people from the Shopian and its neighboring districts are visiting the houses of the militants to offer condolences to the families.

Thousands of people participated in the funeral prayers of Islam and Ahmad on Sunday at their native villages of Sugan and Chillipora respectively.
