Governor Satya Pal Malik on Monday advised militant to “shun the path of violence” and join mainstream saying the administration will take all steps for their rehabilitation but maintained that if militants fired or lobbed explosive devices at forces, they won’t retaliate with flowers or bouquets.

“Militants will achieve nothing by indulging in violence and it was better for them to leave this path and come to the mainstream, where the administration will take steps for their rehabilitation,” Malik told reporters on the sidelines of a function in Jammu.

He said that there was nothing like ‘Operation All Out’ and some people were using this wrong term, the Governor said the Government wants these children (militants) to come back to the mainstream.

“On our side, we do not have any ‘Operation All Out’. They (militants) should leave this path as they will achieve nothing from this,” Malik said.

On National Conference president and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah’s statement that if his party is elected to power in the upcoming Assembly elections, it would establish a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to probe killings in the State, Malik said he is stating something new every day.

“He is a senior politician so commenting on him is not good,” the Governor added.

Malik said mainstream politicians have political compulsions and “in our country, one can go to any extent for a vote”.

“They are all political people and have political compulsions. For a vote, the people go too far in this country. I understand the compulsions of everybody and honour them,” he said when asked about statements made by some politicians recently.

On holding of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Governor reiterated that the administration was ready for the conduct of the democratic exercise.

“We are ready for polls. When the Election Commission takes a decision, we will hold the elections,” he said.

“We are being demonized across the country that everything here is wrong. But I can say with authority that Jammu and Kashmir is far ahead from many of the States in the country,” Malik said.

While taking a dig at National Conference president and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, albeit without naming him, that he comes out with a new statement every day and that politicians can go to any extent for the sake of votes, Malik, however, was all praise for Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar saying he is a no non-sense CM and after coming to power has almost finished crime in Bihar.

“Nitish Kumar is a no non-sense CM. After his coming to power in Bihar, crime has almost finished. Bihar has done a lot of work in skill development. I want to tell all other politicians if you want to learn honesty and morality in politics, you must learn from Nitish Kumar,” Malik, who was Governor of Bihar before being shifted to Jammu and Kashmir in August last year as a replacement of NN Vohra, said.
