State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has sought factual report from the Director General of police and Deputy Commissioner Shopian on the killing of four persons in a firing incident at Shopian district.
Taking suo-moto cognizance of media reports, the SHRC Monday sought reports on the matter from Director General of police and Deputy Commissioner Shopion Member SHRC Rafiq Fida told a local news agency, KNS.
“The print media has highlighted the unfortunate incident which took place in Shopian where four young boys were deprived of their life by unwarranted, indiscriminate firing by CRPF at Gagran Shopion. The allegations on the face of it are grave human rights violation. The Commission cannot lose sight of alleged repeated Human Rights violation committed by security forces day in or day out. The Commission takes Suo-Moto cognizance of unfortunate incident where by four persons has been deprived of their precious lives,” he said.
“Right to life is guaranteed under article 21 of constitution of India and the district administration is primarily custodian of the life and property of its subjects and the same must be safeguarded and no lapses in this regard can be excused in order to know the stand of the District administration,” he said. “Let reports be called from, DGP J&K, Deputy Commissioner Shopian. All affected persons or their NOKs can approach and assist the Commission by filing correct and detailed statement of facts regarding the incident so that the actual position can be presented in its true prospective,” the member said.
