Kashmir is observing shutdown to protest against the killings in Shopian. Five people were killed in the southern town in two different incidents of Firing by CRPF on September 7 and 11.

The shutdown call  was given by Hurriyat Conference (G) to protest the killing of five persons in CRPF firing in Shopian, where curfew continued for the fifteenth consecutive day Saturday.

Shops, offices, business establishments, educational institutions and petrol pumps are shut and public transport is off the roads.

However, private cars, cabs and auto rickshaws are seen plying in the city and elsewhere.

Forces have been deployed in strength in the city and major towns to prevent any untoward incident, police sources said.

Five persons, including four civilians, were killed in CRPF firing in Shopian in the current month.

Meanwhile, curfew continued for the fifteenth consecutive day today in Shopian.
