All the shops, business establishments, and other private offices are closed in the valley, while traffic is off the roads though few private vehicles, besides cabs and three-wheelers, could be seen plying on some routes.

The shutdown call was called by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL). JRL on Thursday asked the people of Kashmir to observe complete against booking of JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik and others under PSA, the spree of arrests, ban on socio/religious organization Jamat-I-Islami, attempts to tinker with article 35 A and intimidating raids of NIA against Kashmiris.

Meanwhile, authorities have imposed curfew-like restrictions in several parts of Kashmir to prevent the protests. Rail services have also been suspended across Kashmir in view of the shutdown

Forces personnel have been deployed in strength in parts of old city Srinagar to thwart protests while reports of the shutdown were also received from other district headquarters of the valley.
