All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) Friday expressed concern over the killing of a Sikh youth in police firing in the Gaddhigarh area of the Jammu division. The Committee has demanded for a judicial probe in the incident and immediate suspension of the concerned police officials, a party statement said.
APSCC statement said that the members of the community were busy in a purely religious function which was objected to by the police. “The police officials worked under the influence and directions of some hardcore elements which are part of the government,” he said.
“Every year Sikhs assemble to pay tributes and respects to Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale, who was heading a religious organization namely Damdami Taksal Amristar. This has been going on for years now normally without any interference from outside. The police action is highly condemnable and is an infringement in the religious affairs of the Sikh community,” the statement said.
It added, “situation turned volatile when the policemen torn the posters of Bhindrawale in the morning today (Wednesday). He said this action infuriated the youth of the community and they came out as a mark of protest. He added that the situation could have been handled in a better manner but for the high handedness of police officials.
“The state government should immediately act on the matter and suspend the police officials responsible for the killing of the youth identified as Jagjeet Singh. A time bound judicial probe should be ordered at the earliest since many other members of the community have sustained injuries in the incident,” it demanded.
