A Landscape view of Dal Lake -- The government Thursday said it has issued 3600 Shikara licenses to boatmen in Dal Lake, but said that no such license was issued after 2009.

While replying the question tabled by MLC MK Ajatshatru, the minister of Housing and Urban Development Nirmal Singh turned down the apprehensions raised by the concerned MLC saying that no Shikara license has been issued to any people who aren’t professional shikarawals.

To a question about rehabilitation of shikarawals tabled by the same MLC, the minister replied, “J&K LAWDA is developing a colony at Rakh-I-Arth Bemina for the displaced Dal dwellers.” However, the minister ruled out of any possibility to set up separate colony for the shikarawals,
