Six Arrested in Anti-Drug Crackdown in Anantnag, Kulgam

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested six people in separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Anantnag and Kulgam districts, recovering heroin, charas and other suspected narcotic substances, police said.

In Dooru, police arrested Adil Rahman, son of Abdul Rahman and a resident of Peti Khas, Verinag, during checking on Fidar Road and recovered approximately seven grams of heroin from him. In a separate operation at Qamar, police apprehended Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Salaam Bhat, a resident of Kapran, and seized around eight grams of heroin. An FIR numbered 155/2026 has been registered at Police Station Dooru in the latter case, while investigation is under way in both matters.

In Anantnag, a police team conducting checking on National Highway 244 near Najigund intercepted Amir Hussain Sheikh, son of Mohd Ramzan Sheikh, a resident of Donipawa, and recovered 10.76 grams of charas. At Mehendi Kadal, police separately apprehended Muneeb Saleem Wani, son of Mohammad Saleem Wani, a resident of Bangidar, and seized six grams of charas. Legal proceedings have been initiated in both cases.

Police Post Sangam personnel also intercepted Urood Gul, son of Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Bijbehara, and recovered 6.30 grams of a charas-like substance. An FIR numbered 291/2026 has been registered under Sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation has been taken up.

In Kulgam district, police from Police Post Mirbazar arrested Dharm Veer, son of Ram Autar and a resident of Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh, near DBZ Brick Kiln in Kachpora. Police said they recovered 1.360 kilograms of charas powder and 11.02 grams of a charas-like substance from his possession. An FIR numbered 244/2026 has been registered under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Qazigund, and investigation is continuing.

Police said enforcement and preventive measures against drug trafficking and peddling would continue, with a focus on protecting young people and society from drug abuse.
