Police arrested 6 activists of Jammu Kashmir Peoples Freedom League, a constituent of Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani, who were protesting against alleged human rights violations by the hands of government forces, the continuation of AFSPA, continues detention of dozens of leaders including Masarat Aalam Bhat and life imprisonment of Dr Qasim Faktoo, Nazir Ahmad Sheikh and Shawkat Ahmad Khan.

The activists gathered outside press colony on the residency road and raised anti- India and pro-freedom slogans.

They started a march towards UNMOGIP but police swung into action and arrested at least six protesters including Haji Ghulam Ahmad Parray, general secretary JKFL.

While police was trying to bundle the protesters into a gypsy, a constable fell down and was seriously injured.

A police spokesman identified the injured constable as Tariq Ahmad and said that he was rushed to hospital where he is being treated. The spokesman said that constable Tariq got four stitches on his head and he is stable.
