Police accepted a memorandum from independent lawmaker Er Rasheed on behalf of UNMOGIP, who has shifted his office to the other side of LoC on the pattern of yearly darbar move.
Er Rasheed along with his dozens of followers appeared on residence road and shouted slogans against alleged human rights violations by the hands of government forces, the continuation of AFSPA, continues detention of dozens of leaders including Dr Qasim Faktoo and others.
Er Rasheed was holding a banner on which he had pleaded to the president of India to accept the clemency of Afzal Guro, an accused in the parliament attack case who is facing death sentence.
Rasheed’s followers were raising slogans like ‘Army rule unacceptable’ and ‘Go AFSPA go’.
Er Rasheed wanted to lead a protest march upto UNMOGIP but he was denied permission by police officials.
“What is the fun of having an office of UNMOGIP in Srinagar, it is better to convert the office into a torture cell or a five star hotel,” Er Rasheed told police officials.
Later he was permitted to take a protest march up to Sher-e-Kashmir Park where he handed over a memorandum to SP East on behalf of UNMOGIP.
Earlier speaking to media persons Er Rashid said that government of India is depriving Kashmiris of living their life with honor and dignity and is encouraging state terrorism.
Er Rashid expressed deep concern over the plight of detainees languishing in jails. He demanded abolition of life and capital punishment for all cases.
During resisting police in Regal Chowk one protester Ajaz Ahmad of Sangrama got injured and was shifted to SMHS hospital Srinagar.
