SRINAGAR: A portion of road that collapsed in Badyari Chowk Dalgate on February 24, 2021, is yet to be reconstructed, causing inconvenience to commuters and traffic.

The collapse of this road has caused several problems to the locals. Area is witnessing a huge rush of tourists but the traffic jam is causing extreme disturbance to traffic movement in the area.

Due to the heavy flow of traffic in this area, nearby places have been affected a lot due to the noise and traffic mess. With no proper space for parking, businesses of nearby shops have been affected immensely, said the locals.

Work supervisor Fayaz Ahmed blamed that “We had no proper supply of stones due to which the work was halted but now we have got the material and the road is likely to get completed till the end of this month,” he said.

He said 60 percent of the road is complete and we have to do some filling on the road and it will be completed by August 25, 2021. “It was a crucial point, we had to work with water,” he said.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad on Friday visited Dalgate to inspect the restoration work being carried out on a patch of road at Badyari Chowk along Boulevard on Dal Lake.

The DC directed the concerned executing agency to speed up the pace of restoration work by employing additional men and machinery.

He set an August 25 deadline for completion of the work to ensure smooth and safe traffic movement on the road.

Superintendent Engineer R&B, Nayeem Khan and other concerned were present on the occasion.
