SRINAGAR: At least six residential houses were gutted in a blaze that broke out in the Shahabad locality of Sopore town in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday.

The fire reportedly broke out due to a short circuit and within no time spread to other houses. The firefighters as well as police reached the spot immediately and doused the flames with the help of locals.

Officials said that the rescue operation was hindered due to the narrow, congested lanes in the area, making it difficult for the fire tenders to reach the spot.

There was no loss of life in the incident, however, residential houses were gutted rendering six families homeless, and destroying property worth lakhs of rupees, they added.
