A district commander of HM outfit was killed in an encounter in North Kashmir’s Sopore district, police spokesman said.’
Giving details, spokesman said acting on a specific information regarding the presence of militants, Sopore police along with 22 RR, 179, 92 Bn CRPF launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in Dangerpora Reben area in the jurisdiction of Police Station Sopore. During the search operation, militant hiding in the area fired upon the joint search party. The fire was retaliated, ensuing an encounter.
“One terrorist was killed in the encounter who was identified as Shahid Ahmad Sheikh @Shabir, district commander of HM, resident of Kachloo Qaziabad, Handwara. He was earlier affiliated with JeM,” said spokesman and added that one AK rifle, 02 AK magazine, 01 grenade, 23 AK rounds and a pouch was recovered from the encounter site.
While talking about his activities, spokesman said “he was involved in many anti social, anti national and criminal activities. He was involved in the killing of one Shahnaz Ahmad Khan son of Ghulam Rasool resident of Super-Naghama in which a case FIR number 10/2017 under section 302 RPC, 7/27 Act stands registered in Police Station Kralgund. He was also involved in convoy attacks on security forces on Baramulla-Handwara Highway.”
He further said that slain Shahid was “chief coordinator between JeM & HM in North Kashmir.”
