It is tragic! It was April 22 and results of MA Urdu were declared by MANUU. While families of those successful students were delighted, a family in South Kashmir’s Pulwama was again mourning.
Slain Shaista Hamid of Lelhaar Pulwama bagged 54 per cent in MA Urdu. Daughter of Ab Hamid, Shaista was shot dead by army during an encounter in the area. She had bagged 252 marks in her first semester.
Shaista wrote final semester exams for MA in Urdu in last January and results were declared on April 22.
Shaista was hit by an army bullet on February 14 when she was inside her courtyard. Her killings came after locals protests erupted in Lelhaar during an encounter between suspected militants and forces.
Another youth, Danish – an engineering student at IUST – too was killed during protests.
The killing, which evoked widespread condemnation, recreated fresh mourning in Shaista’s family after her results were declared. The family amid sobs said that their daughter wanted to become teacher to teach the village kids.
