The militant who died in a brief gun battle with forces last overnight was laid to rest on Tuesday amid strong pro-freedom sloganeering.
Survived by father, mother, wife and two children, the slain militant was identified as Farooq Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Nazneenpora.
Reports said that he had left his home two years ago and joined Hizbul Mujahideen.
“He has a son, Uzair Farooq, who studies in class 4th and a heart patient three year old daughter,” a local said.
Heavy pro-freedom and anti-slogans were raised as the slain militant was laid to rest.
