 After menace of spurious drug circulation, Jammu and Kashmir has gained another’ mile stone’ in trading with unhygienic packaged drinking water. After receiving several complaints authorities finally woke up to take the cognizance.

 “We collected samples of seven different companies manufacturing or bottling the water for sale in Srinagar city, health officer, Srinagar Municipal Corporation,” Dr Rubina said. She added that after conducting checks on the samples, one brand namely ‘Mount Aqua’ was found not worth to circulation and bottling of which was banned till further orders. The unit is situated in Ganderbal area, she informed.

But how going things in Jammu is not known as till date no samples were collected and observed in the larger interest of consumers. However, health officer, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Dr Vinod Sharma said that under JMC jurisdiction there are five units and all are running without licenses. He said that he has given them three months time to get set their units so that samples could be taken for checking.

Well informed sources said that there are nine units involved in packaged drinking water business across the Jammu region among those two are a Kathua, Two at Samba, one at Panthel in Reasi and remaining in Jammu district. Though, FPO and ISI standards for these companies are compulsory still it is not enough to prove the purity of the product, they added.

It needs a mention here that for the last several years there had been no checks on essential commodities’ but this year people got awakening after the hue and cry about spurious drug circulation.(Agencies)
