Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC ) during the post flood initiatives started massive drive on cleanliness and sanitation of the entire Srinagar City ! About 5000 employees armed with machines and vehicles worked round the clock without break ! The major focus was on clearing of the waste and garbage , application disinfectants and anti odour formulations and removal dead animal carcasses .

During these initiatives regular day and night operations were conducted for sanitation and cleanliness of srinagar city ! A record of about 39 thousand metric tonnes of waste and garbage was collected and disposed off scientifically! Over 51,000 liters and 9000 kgs of disinfectants and anti odour formulations were used respectively for providing disinfectant umbrella coupled with quick garbage / waste removal.

With regard to the disposal animal carcasses , a total of 1664 were scientifically removed with a full cover of disinfectant and anti odour formulation ! It included 983 large and 681 small animals ! No skin puncture of these animal carcasses during their removal was reported as otherwise spread infection becomes a possibility ! Besides no direct contact was ensured between the handlers and these carcasses as the entire operation was conducted mechanically with well trained staff.

No disease connected with post flood situation has been reported  so far in Srinagar City. Minister of urban Local Bodies Nawang Rigzin Jora Sunday under took surprise visit of the areas which have come out of submergence recently like Jawahar Nagar , Raj Bagh and other adjoining area ! The Commissioner of SMC Dr G N Qasba supervised the operation since early morning and the emphasis was on house to house application of disinfectants and anti odour formulations ! It was mentioned that this micro level exercise shall continue intensively for the next one week.
