Health Officer (HO), Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Dr Rubeena Shaheen, along with her team of food safety officers on Monday, conducted thorough inspection of various markets in the city.

“During inspection large quantity of stale/misbranded eatables were destroyed on spot. Dates without labeling manufacturing and expiry date were seized in bulk and destroyed,” a press statement said.

Mean while large quantity of gutka and other pan masala products containing nicotine were seized from various shopkeepers outside some institutions including hospitals and schools.

HO has issued strict warning to the violators to refrain from selling such products anywhere in the city. “She has appealed to people to check the expiry date before buying and eatables and avoid open food items,” the statement said.
