Continuing with its anti-polythene drive in the city the anti-polythene squad of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) seized at least one quintal polythene from different areas of the city on Wednesday.
The recoveries were made from areas including Dalgate, Lalchowk, Harisingh High Street, Naaz crossing.
According to an official spokesperson, the drive was carried out under the supervision of Anti Polythene Officer Mir Mansoor with the full assistance of district police line.
“Around eleven prosecutions were launched against the offenders and a total amount of rupees twelve hundred was recovered as fine”, the spokesperson added.
Meanwhile Commissioner SMC Dr GN Qasba held a meeting at the corporation’s central office and issued instructions to the concerned ward officers to continue with the drive vigorously at the ward levels and once again will organize an anti polythene week in the last week of December .
“SMC will continuously inspect markets and conduct surprise checks and raids during the week. Awareness camps which otherwise are being held in routine shall be regularly held which will be followed by the rallies during the anti polythene week”, said spokesperson while talking to a local news agency KNS.
“On the last day of the week SMC will once again display all the quantity of seized polythene lot ward wise in the central Municipal office and the seized lot shall be confiscated in presence of media”, she added.
