Smuggled timber seized in Islamabad

Kokernag forest officials Tuesday seized 220 Cu feet kail timber being smuggled out of the area. The illegally felled timber was estimated to be worth Rs. 4 lakh.

According to officials, in the compartment number 116K, Ghulam Ali Khan R/o Char Panchgam had illegally cut down th ekail tree and was about to smuggle it out of the area.

“It was a big tree and was planted in 1960’s. On specific information I set up the team and caught the accused red handed and seized the timber in his possession. Police station Laroo has registered an FIR in this regard and the accused has been arrested. More investigations is likely to unveil some other smugglers”, DFO Anantnag Dr. Balaji told KNS.

He said illegal activities will not tolerated and any one found violating law will be dealt strictly as per rules.
