The intense cold wave has decreased Monday after Kashmir Valley and several areas in Pir Panchal region received fresh snowfall.

The Divisional administration has issued a weather advisory and asked people residing in higher reaches and avalanche prone areas of Kangan sub-division in Ganderbal and also in northern parts of Kashmir not to venture near slopes of hilly areas and other avalanche-prone areas.

Meanwhile, Life remained paralyzed by heavy snowfall in entire Chenab valley with Doda town, Ramban and Thathri receiving the season’s first snowfall after several years.

The fresh snowfall has created problems for residents due to snapping of electricity.

State Meteorological Department had forecast moderate but widespread rain and snow in the plains and heavy snowfall in higher reaches till this evening. Reports said that on the 27th day of ongoing harshest cold period Chillai Kalan, the Srinagar and other areas in Kashmir Valley received fresh snowfall during preceding night.

This is the 2nd spell of snowfall witnessed by Kashmir region during the month of January this winter.
